I got the power!

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”  2 Timothy 6-7

Last night, I closed a deal on a home I had listed. What should have been a 30-minute cut-and-dry closing took over two hours due to a mistake I made. Now, if you know anything about me, you know that 1.) I am terrified of making mistakes. and 2.) I am terrified of what others might think of me for making that mistake. What this means is that it is an absolute FEAR of mine to mess things up so I work EXTREMELY hard to make sure things are done correctly. Oftentimes, to my detriment.

I wasn’t the one who recognized my mistake at first. It was my seller. This seller is a VERY sweet lady with a good heart. She can also be difficult to work for and very demanding, which is understandable when selling your home. It was also a mistake she saw beforehand and one which I had every intention of fixing. In the midst of amending contracts and such, I left three words out. Not good.

Of course, fear kicked in. I had to keep my fear hidden, maintain professionalism and composure, and attempt to rectify the situation. And let me tell you I COULD NOT have managed this if I did not have the Holy Spirit working in me. I didn’t even realize he was doing it. I didn’t have time to pray or even think. I just had to act and hope that God was guiding us.

After all this happened and the closing finished, I woke up today and this is what I read:

The Spirit God gave me when he made me new is a spirit of POWER, of LOVE, and of SELF-DISCIPLINE.

What does this have to do with anything? I’m so glad you asked. (You did ask in your head, right? Right.)

Sweet lady, when you feel afraid, no matter what it is or why, God has given you the authority to take control of that fear. He will reveal to you how to conquer it. Then, you use the self-discipline you were given when you were made a new creature in Christ to overcome it.

And by YOU, I mean ME.

God has been revealing to me lately different ways to conquer the aforementioned fears. To begin with, He has been having me step out of my comfort zone lately. I’ve been doing things I wouldn’t normally do in an effort to stop worrying so much about what other people think about me. (Such as writing a blog and putting it out there for the world!) But, ladies, when we do these things, His grace goes before us and makes the way for us.

And, really, if God is for us, who could be against us?

Love to my loves!
